Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

This is an ideal qualification if you are planning to enter teaching.
It will help you build confidence in core teaching skills and it provides an ideal foundation for progression into teaching. It aims to equip a wide range of trainers, facilitators and teachers to support learners, and is particularly suitable for people who want an introduction to training or teaching.

Content

  • Section 1 - Understanding own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching

  • Section 2 - Understanding and learning approaches in the specialist area

  • Section 3 - Demonstrate session planning skills

  • Section 4 - Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners

  • Section 5 - Understand the use of different assessment methods and need for record keeping

Duration

The rule of the qualification Credit Framework (PTLLS6 Credits), 30 contract hours are allocated for programme delivery; this includes group tutorials and the delivery of the theory aspect of the assessment. A further 30 hours is recommended for non-contact time, which will cover the candidates’ individual tutorial support time, developmental activities, research, self-study and teaching practice.

Entry Requirements

The nature of both the learning and assessment required for the qualification is such that candidates will need reasonable literacy skills, i.e. the ability to read and interpret written tasks, and to write answers in a legible and understanding form.
